Probate Story: Family Quarrels

One of the most amazing experiences ever was when a grandson and an uncle were co-heirs and fighting over the property. The Grandfather named his grandson as executor because he knew the son was greedy. And he was. He skimmed rents, stole items from the houses and generally caused problems that made it difficult for the grandson to properly manage the properties. Also, the properties were in disrepair and the insurance was about to be cancelled. Working with our partner financiers and lawyers, we helped the grandson structure a deal where they used equity to repair the houses, reinstate the insurance, increase rents, prepare the properties for sale and even had extra cash to give to the uncle for signing an agreement that he would stay off the properties and not interfere with the operating of the rentals. This was a creative situation our team was able to resolve and everyone was happy.
